Better Housing Coalition
Mission: The Better Housing Coalition changes lives and transforms communities through high-quality, affordable housing. Founded in 1988, BHC is the Richmond, Virginia region’s largest non-profit community development corporation. BHC creates high-quality homes for residents of modest means and empowers them with programs and tools to help them reach their fullest potential, at all stages of life. BHC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
Vision: To ensure that every citizen in our region, regardless of their economic status, has good choices in where they live, and opportunities to reach their fullest potential.
Anna Julia Cooper School
Mission: Anna Julia Cooper School is an independent, faith-based school providing full-tuition scholarships to 4th – 8th grade students of limited economic resources primarily from Richmond’s East End. Through a program focused on the whole child, we help empower students and graduates to change the trajectory of their lives, setting their sights on success in high school, college, and serving their communities. We value all staff, parents and volunteers as integral to our success as a School and a ‘community of affection.’
Vision: Our vision is to provide students with the tools necessary to help ensure them the opportunity for a full and meaningful life. For many of our students, this will mean continuing on to college after high school graduation. For all of our students, it means developing the self-confidence, strength of character, academic skills and sense of hope needed to open the door to a promising future.
RampsRVA
Mission: RampsRVA is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization with a mission to help the less fortunate by paying for and assembling modular wheelchair ramps for those people who are in need and have qualified for financial assistance.
Vision: Our vision is to empower financially qualified older adults and disabled individuals in Henrico County, Chesterfield County, and the City of Richmond, VA by giving them a safe means in and out of their homes. The wheelchair ramps assembled by our volunteers make an immediate and permanent improvement in the lives of the recipients. The ramps increase access to regular medical care – from doctor’s appointments to dialysis. Recipients reconnect with their friends and communities and gain access to social services programs.
