Mr. Akin joined McCann Realty Partners in August 2012 as its President. He has over 33 years of multi-family real estate experience. Since joining McCann, Mr. Akin has led the company through its leadership transition and formed several new institutional equity relationships. Matt also led the acquisition of controlling interest in Pegasus Residential, our Property Management Company. Mr. Akin leads McCann’s day-to-day operations while also leading the Board of Directors of Pegasus Residential. Matt’s focus is development and construction, partnerships, and building a strong team of real estate professionals.
Mr. Akin’s experience touches all aspects of a fully integrated apartment real estate company including transactions, property management, joint ventures, development, asset management, redevelopment, as well as finance and accounting. Matt came to McCann from UDR, Inc, a large publicly traded multi-family real estate investment trust (REIT). Matt led the Acquisitions and Dispositions Department at UDR. At UDR and at McCann, Matt has led transactions of over $14 billion in more than 40 markets across the country. Pegasus Residential manages a portfolio of approximately 40,000 apartments throughout the Southeast, Mid Atlantic, Texas and Midwest areas of the US.
Mr. Akin has a BBA in Finance from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the University of Texas, at Dallas. He has also completed executive education at Columbia University in New York City and is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the National Multi-Housing Council.
